The spectacular athletics event berlin 2009™ will be broadcasted in over 190 countries

Exactly one month before the start of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™, the television stations ARD and ZDF presented their concept for the television broadcast of the world’s largest sports event of the year in Berlin: The TV images from Berlin will be broadcasted in more than 190 countries around the world. The Norwegian cult band “a-ha” provides the official World Championships’ song, the current hit “Foot of the Mountain”. The World Championships’ Organising Committee also presented four more business partners for berlin 2009™.

Great Results and good crowds in Ulm, as German stars get ready for Berlin

Packed spectator tribunes greeted the German Championships in Ulm last weekend (4 / 5), as the athletes of host nation geared-up for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin, Germany (15 – 23 Aug).

Among the standout performers were European Indoor record holder Sebastian Bayer in the Long Jump, 2.06m national record holder Ariane Friedrich in the women’s High Jump, World Silver medallist Robert Harting in the Discus Throw, and European Indoor silver medallist Silke Spiegelburg in the women’s Pole Vault.

Harting and Spiegelburg produce highlights in Ulm – German Champs, Day 2

Robert Harting and Silke Spiegelburg produced the highlights on day two of the German Championships in Ulm on Sunday (5), which saw packed spectors tribunes and another crowd of 15,000.

The Berlin discus thrower took his event with 67.69m, while the European Indoor silver medallist in the women’s Pole Vault cleared 4.65m to clinch that title. Both clearly could do very well in the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin, Germany (15 – 23 August).

Bayer secures Berlin ticket with 8.49m leap, Friedrich clears 2.01m – German Champs, Day 1

On the final day of the European Indoor Championships in Turin in March Sebastian Bayer had caused the sensation of the weekend with a 8.71m Long Jump, a European indoor record. Now on day one (4) of the German Championships in the southern city of Ulm it was again Bayer who produced the highlight.

There was a lot at stake for Germany’s newest athletics star and he showed that he can handle quite a bit of pressure. When he started the competition he had not yet achieved the qualification standard for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin, Germany, (15 – 23 August). But with a superb 8.49m leap Bayer left no doubts: he is back in top form just in time.

Two of the “German Faces of the World Championships”, Robin Schembera (800m/ TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and Raúl Spank (High Jump/ Dresdner SC 1898), as well as the mascot of the World Championships, Berlino, were part of the DFB (German Football Association) Football Cup Finals in the Berlin Olympic Stadium on Saturday, May 30, 2009.

Berlino welcomes guests at the Golden Sports Pyramid (Goldene Sportpyramide)

On Friday, May 29, 2009, Berlino welcomed the guests on the red carpet at the 10th anniversary gala event, the Golden Sports Pyramid, at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin.

“We are pleased to be here at the Golden Sports Pyramid gala together with Berlino to promote the most important sporting event of the world in the year 2009,” said Dr. Clemens Prokop, Executive President of the World Championships’ Organising Committee and President of the German Athletics Association (DLV) in preparation of the event.

World Championships' Organising Committee Presents berlin 2009™ - Cultural Programme

The World Championships' Organising Committee presented the cultural programme for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™. Not only will the best track and field athletes in the world compete in the German capital from August 15-23, 2009, but Berliners and the city’s guests will also have an opportunity to enjoy a special cultural programme that will take place in celebration of this great occasion. At the Academy of the Arts (Akademie der Künste) at the Brandenburg Gate, Klaus Wowereit, Governing Mayor of Berlin and President of the World Championships' Organising Committee, presented the most important components of the cultural programme that will be accompanying berlin 2009™. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is supporting the cultural programme for the Championships with 2 million Euros.

berlin 2009™ Roadshow on tour through Germany

Today at the Brandenburg Gate, the World Championships Berlin Organising Committee for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™ was joined by Klaus Wowereit, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, to present the berlin 2009™-Roadshow, which will begin its tour through Germany’s 60 biggest cities on May 7.

Together with the official IAAF automobile partner, TOYOTA, and the national partner, Deutsche Post, the World Championships Organising Committee is “Für die Umwelt am Start” (“Starting for the Environment”) at the largest sporting event of the year.

Berlino is greeting everyone prominently from the TV Tower

114 days before the start of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™, the World Championships mascot, Berlino, took his place on the TV Tower at Alexanderplatz on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, to welcome all Berliners and guests in the capital.

To welcome the installation of the mascot on the TV Tower, Berlino and the executive president of the World Championships organising committee and president of the German Athletics Association, Dr. Clemens Prokop, were on hand at Alexanderplatz.

IAAF World Championships Organising Committee now drives Toyota iQ and Avensis

For the fourth time, Toyota is an Official Partner of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics and, together with the National Partner Deutsche Post, is “Starting for the Environment” (“Für die Umwelt am Start”).

From now on, the IAAF World Championships Organising Committee, BOC, will be moving about the capital in five new Toyota iQs and seventeen Avensis’. Toyota and Deutsche Post also announced a joint campaign “Starting for the Environment”.

Michael Mronz, Steering Board Member of the World Championships Berlin Organising Committee, is especially pleased about the little iQ city cars: “The Toyota iQ cars will be a fabulous help for us in the Berlin city traffic during our preparations of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™.
