Final spurt in the volunteer application phase for berlin 2009™

Anyone interested has until Saturday, January 31, 2009 to apply to become a volunteer for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™. A total of 3,500 volunteers will be active in 13 different areas—from visitor services, to shuttle services, to marketing. Almost 5,000 applications have already reached the World Championships organising committee. Anyone interested can find out about the volunteer programme and also submit an online application on the World Championships website at www.berlin2009.org/volunteers.

BOC managing director Heinrich Clausen emphasised the importance of the volunteers for the success of berlin 2009™: “The direct contact of the volunteers with the spectators, athletes, and functionaries at the World Championships in Athletics will contribute greatly to the positive atmosphere there. The dedication and motivation of the volunteers are key factors for the success of the World Championships.”

Currently almost 5,000 people from around the world have applied to be part of the volunteer programme. Extensive interviews with over 3,000 of the applicants have already been carried out. After the interview phase has been concluded at the end of February 2009, all of the applicants will be notified about their participation as volunteers at the Championships.
