114 days before the start of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™, the World Championships mascot, Berlino, took his place on the TV Tower at Alexanderplatz on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, to welcome all Berliners and guests in the capital.

To welcome the installation of the mascot on the TV Tower, Berlino and the executive president of the World Championships organising committee and president of the German Athletics Association, Dr. Clemens Prokop, were on hand at Alexanderplatz. Dr. Clemens Prokop expressed his great pleasure at the presence of the berlin 2009™ mascot in the city centre: “With Berlino in his place on the tallest landmark in Berlin, we are delighted to be able to bring notice to the World Championships in August to all of the Berliners and their guests. Together with Deutsche Telekom, we are now represented on one of the main attractions in the city.

Under the motto “We are clothing Berlin in love”, the state of Berlin together with Deutsche Telekom is calling everyone to participate in creating the “longest love letter in the world”. The Berlin TV Tower will be covered with love letters (150m high), and in the middle three 12m-high images of the berlin 2009™ mascot Berlino will greet the city.

The Berlin TV Tower has a total height of 368m, making it Berlin’s tallest landmark. Within the framework of the promotional activity “We are clothing Berlin in love”, Deutsche Telekom will cover 150m of the 200m-long shaft with love letters from their “Rain of Roses” campaign and with images of the mascot for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™. The decorating of the TV Tower is to be completed by April 25, and the letters and the berlin 2009™ mascot can be seen then until the end of May 2009.
